Jan 4 A Message Unchained
Visit the depths of the Mamertine Prison and the great monuments of ancient Rome with Pastor Finley as he explores one of the great mysteries of history. How did individuals with the least amount of political power or social status—those stuck in the dungeons or fleeing to the catacombs—prove stronger than all the might and power of the Caesars? The answer shows us how the world can be rebuilt through grace.

To all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:7.

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it,
the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, Romans 3:21-24

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer every one. Colossians 4:6

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2

Jan 11 Two Kinds of Power
Peter Waldo and Innocent III were two men who desperately wanted to reform the church. But while one created a movement that enlightened much of Europe with the gospel, the other carried the blood of thousands on his hands. Their two different pursuits of power present us with critical choices today. This program demonstrates the importance of what we have to share.

Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." Matthew 19:21.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

Preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2

See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." Jeremiah 1:10

Jan 18 Which Picture of Jesus?
For centuries, the Shroud of Turin has provoked debate about what Jesus really looked like. Back in the Middle Ages, one group of people claimed to know. The Waldenses, as they were called, offered up a picture of who Jesus was as a person—a picture they had put together from a document most people did not have access to—a document the church kept locked away. This program reveals the secret behind their unforgettable picture of Jesus.

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; Psalm19:7

So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ. Romans 10:17

Jan 25 A Dance With Death
During the Middle Ages, many believers found themselves bound to a grim dance with death by a system of penance. They tried to outmaneuver the Grim Reaper by engaging in fasts and pilgrimages that could decrease their time in purgatory. However, another group living during the Dark Ages discovered a much better way to escape human mortality. Discover how the hope they found can enlighten the journey for each one of us.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God-- not because of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him. John 3:36

And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:11

Feb 1 A Mediator We Can’t Manipulate
In 1686, the green mountains of Italy witnessed one of history’s most tragic acts of religious persecution. It was the last wail of the Dark Ages—when King Louis XIV ordered the slaughter of the Waldenses. The story of what really motivated him creates a fascinating picture of the mediators in our lives and why we manipulate them.

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:5-6

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, ....For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Hebrews10:12,14

and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches shall know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you as your works deserve. Revelation 2:23

For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16

Feb 8 Beyond Our Fathers
Geoffrey Varaille was a brilliant young priest who realized that to really follow his father, he had to move beyond his father’s allegiance. His story shows us exactly what it was that enabled the Waldenses to keep advancing their faith—against the odds.

if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. 1 Timothy 3:15

And so, from the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, to lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossian 1:9-10

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 2 Peter 1:5

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity. James 3:17

Feb 15 Looking Through
The Waldenses managed to hold onto their faith with the basic truths of the gospel while enduring centuries of persecution. How did they do it? How did they endure as a people and become known as the legendary “Israel of the Alps”? How did they manifest such good cheer in the midst of hardship? Pastor Finley shows how their secret can help us persevere through the difficulties in our own lives.

Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world." John 18:36

Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of persons ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be kindled and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire! 2 Peter 3:11-12

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the wood sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:2-4
